JIU JITSU
Gi Grappling
WHAT IS GI?
Training in the Gi means you are wearing the traditional uniform consisting of long pants, a cotton jacket, and a belt to keep everything together. It is very similar to a Kimono in Judo.
Whether you are wearing the Gi or not, your goal is always to take your opponent to the mat, get into a dominant position, and find a submission to end the fight.
Using the Gi means that you can hold on to the clothing of your opponent. This opens up a whole new world of grips compared to Nogi Grappling. Using the Gi of your opponent, you can restrict their movement more efficiently. Additionally, the grips offer several submissions that are not available without these grips. You can use your opponent’s jacket for example to apply a strangle hold.
Expect to sweat, laugh, learn—and leave ready to come back stronger next time.
